Self

First ever painting exercise =S
There are many things I don't like about it, but I've realised that when there's that many things about a piece of work that bug you, it's time to chuck it aside and start afresh.

Colour splat

I think I like the sketches better uncoloured...but oh well. What's done is done.

Sneaky Schoodles

Schoodle: noun. A doodle done at school. e.g: I feel really guilty, 'cause I've been schoodling all day when I was supposed to be doing classwork.

Coloured model sheet for Treevenge

First update in almost a year...I did not think time would fly by so fast!

I did this cleaned up, coloured turnaround for our team's 30-second short, Treevenge. After a couple days' worth of exploring character design, we finally came up with this.

Although I did the cleanup, colour and 2 hurried poses for the rough version (front and back views), the bulk of the rough turnaround was done by the talented Lee Tawhai.
We had a lot of fun on this project. We had a strong team of animators and worked well together. Even though we had to let many mistakes go (we had 9 weeks to put the film together from start to finish) it was fulfilling to have finished our first ever short film.
Who knows, perhaps we will jazz it up in the future.

For the sake of general knowledge, our team LOA Productions consists of myself, Chris Cheer, Joseph McIvor, Lee Tawhai and Rongotoa (aka Kingston) Harris.

Update with a semi-ancient sketch

The best of the 10 sketches I did of my golden retriever while he was falling asleep.
1 out of 10 good drawings is not very good...must practice more and more and more.

Hello, world

Its me, Mrid.

I am currently a 2nd year student at Freelance Animation School

I'm not sure yet what I'm going to be posting here, but it will most likely be a healthy combination of doodles, sketches, musings and other animation-related geekery.

Here's something to start off- some stuff from way back in February, for our first ever assignment I think. His name is Oreo (my cousins in San Francisco had a puppy by the same name when I went to visit years ago), and he jumps surprisingly high for his diminutive stature.
